This first quarter is flying by! Somehow, we are half way through September, with progress reports coming up rapidly! Please remember to be checking with your student each day about their homework assignments.
In math this week, we are finishing our beginning level work on area, as well as adding in perimeter. Students should all have access to CPM online, as well as the homework help. This week, we will also be taking a pre-test for our unit over LCM, GCF, and all operations with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. By the end of the week, students will be using "generic rectangles" to explore a relationship between area and multiplying whole numbers, which will lead into our unit. Students will receive grades this week for their number talk paper, exit tickets, and in class activities, as well as homework assignments (the current homework plan is: Monday - 2.2.2 Review Preview, Wednesday - 2.2.3 Review Preview, Thursday - area/perimeter worksheet). In social studies, we are finishing our first TCI lesson (Investigating the Past) and will complete the entire second lesson (Early Hominins). Students will be taking notes on the four early hominin groups, focusing on how early humans developed and changed over time, leading up to our earliest civilizations. Notes/work in their notebooks is being taken for a grade, with occasional homework assignments. In spelling, we received our second individualized list last week. We are working on a 5 day cycle, with test dates varying depending on our weeks. This week, students are completing word sorts, speed sorts, and rainbow words in their notebooks, and writing sentences with their spelling words on Google Classroom (each day = one grade on Q). Spelling tests will occur the end of the week (Green/Gold groups = Thursday, Purple group = Friday). Upcoming dates:
**If other dates come up before next week's update, I will add another post or send out a message using Classtag! If you have any questions, please let me know by commenting below or sending me an email! ([email protected]) Have a great week!
