Somehow, May is already upon us this week! Progress reports went home for 4th Quarter last Friday, so please continue to check with your student and on Q to see if they have any missing work, including absent work, as absent work becomes missing/late after a few days. As a reminder, students can do corrections on any assignment, which is a great way to earn some extra credit and boost their grade! We are also offering ASHH still (after school homework help) most Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until 4:00, which any student can stay for to get extra help on homework or just have a quiet place to work on homework! They even get a snack and drink while working!
Also as a reminder, please continue to check in with your student about their chromebook, homework/absent work, Classcraft, and if they have gotten any behavior referrals that need to be signed (or detentions to be served). Detentions MUST be served in order to attend our upcoming field trip! Field trip permission slips were due last week, so if your student has not had you sign a permission slip, please do so! Chaperone forms are due tomorrow (Wednesday) and the 4-H release forms are due soon as well! If you have not sent in the $10 fee yet, please do so as soon as possible. In math this week, we will continue to work on ratios using some Illustrative Mathematics Lessons (IM 2.4, 2.5, and 2.6). Your student will have a homework assignment on Tuesday (IM 2.4 Worksheet) and Thursday (IM 2.5 Worksheet). In social studies, we are continuing our focus on Rome with the Rise of the Roman Republic, discussing how the republic was founded based on unfair representation between groups. The notes should be completed this week for this lesson (TCI Lesson 33). In spelling, we are working on new tic tac toe boards. Boards will be due on Friday, May 10 and tests will take place that day as well. Students will have four more class periods to work, but some may need to work at home as well! Upcoming dates:

Happy four day week! Easter and the four day weekend are fast approaching, and we are hard at work in 6th grade! In math this week, we have finished (or should have finished) our graphs for the science expo. Those will be printed for your student and given to them to attach directly to their board in the next week or so. We are also moving from our focus of fractions, decimals, and percents into work with ratios - how to write ratios, describe the relationship, and reducing/enlarging a figure. We are working on Lesson 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 this week, looking specifically at enlarging and reducing. Ask your student what figure we have been enlarging! Your student will have a homework assignment on Tuesday (4.2.1 Review Preview), but all other CPM homework assignments will wait until next week. If your student has not completed one of the graph projects on Google classroom, or if they have missing/absent work, please help them get it completed as soon as possible. In social studies, we are beginning what will probably be our final ancient civilization... ROME! This week, we are focusing primarily on a map of Rome, as well as a KWL chart. We will then focus on the geography and early development of Rome (TCI Lesson 32). We will continue working on Lesson 32 next week as well. In spelling, we are continuing our boards from earlier this month. Tic tac toe boards and spelling tests will be due next Wednesday, April 24th. If your student did not turn in their last tic tac toe boards in yet, please have them do so as soon as possible. Upcoming dates:

We will be spending class time Wednesday, so all data collection must be finished to work on the table and graph in class. In social studies, students are finishing their civilization matrix projects this week. For my homeroom, the rough draft and final typed copy are due on Friday. In spelling, we will be taking a short break during class this week due to Erin's Law presentations, but are continuing the same list as last week.
