As we prepare to return to four day in person learning, information seems to be constantly changing! Make sure you are checking in on your student's progress and following Blue Ridge information using the app! Check out some reminders (mostly review) and updates about what we are learning below!
As a reminder, students are still expected to check the 6th grade website every day that they are remote (Silver = Mon/Tues/Wed, Blue = Thurs/Fri/Mon). Even after returning to four days in person, students will still be learning remotely on Mondays, with regular video calls! Grades are also up to date. All students should have their own student access to Skyward/Q to check their grades, so they can pull those up anytime! It is harder to keep track of work while going back and forth on in person and remote days, so it's especially important that students are checking emails, Skyward/Q, the website, and folders to make sure they are getting credit for all of their work! Quarter 2 is off to a quick start, so check out those grades and stay all caught up with those assignments! In math this week, we are continuing to work on area, specifically looking at how area and perimeter are connected. We've been looking at area in general, as well as area of rectangles, area of non-rectangular shapes, and discussing what square units means. We've also be working with creating shapes with larger areas but the same perimeter, and vice versa. Blue students will have 2.2.3 Review Preview and a mystery picture as remote work this week. Silver students will be completing those activities in class on Friday. There will be no new work posted on Monday (11/2) and Tuesday (11/3), so students should use that time to make sure they have missing work/corrections completed! In science, students should have completed all work for Mosa Mack Lesson 3, including their test on the design thinking unit. This week, they were working on the vocabulary for our next unit, the Scientific Method and Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER). There were vocabulary words and definitions for them to record in their science notebooks, and there is a Quizlet activity for them on Google classroom, which they can use to practice the words! Just like that, we are heading into Quarter 2! We are having fall dress up days this week, so make sure to take pictures and post them on social media using our school hashtag (#br_u_knighted). Check out some reminders (mostly review) and updates about what we are learning below!

Let's start off Quarter 2 on the right foot and stay all caught up with those assignments! In math this week, we are moving on to the second section of Chapter 2, which focuses on area. We'll be looking at area in general, as well as area of rectangles, area of non-rectangular shapes, and discussing what square units means. Their work on their upcoming remote days will be the 2.2.1 and 2.2.2 Review Preview pages, as well as a two truths/one lie math puzzle packet. In science, students are finishing their work to save a sloth in a zoo from a tree, while also keeping him safe from the alligators under the tree. Students will be working through the design thinking process to brainstorm and create a way to save the sloth! Building for this experiment is optional, since the materials are a little harder to come by, but I'd love to see anything they do create! They will also be taking a small test over our design thinking unit before we move into our next unit next week. General Updates:

Have a fantastic week! Reach out to any of the teachers if you have questions! Ms Kennell We are already almost a fourth of the way through our school year! In some ways, it feels like we've been living a hybrid life for a very long time, but it also feels like the year is flying by! All work must be turned in during this week to get credit! The end of the quarter is this Fri, Oct 16!! In math this week, we are moving on to Chapter 2 - Arithmetic Strategies and Area. The first couple of lesson are a review of different forms of graphs (dot plot, bar graph, Venn diagram, histogram, and stem-and-leaf plot), which we will be covering this week. Next week, we'll start looking more at area and multiplication. Their work on their upcoming remote days will be the 2.1.1 and 2.1.2 Review Preview pages, as well as a prime/composite/prime factorization quiz. In science, students should have completed their boat assignments last week. Any late boat work should be turned in this week, since it is counting towards quarter one. One their upcoming remote days, they will be moving into our last lesson in the design thinking unit, which asks students to save a sloth in a zoo from a tree, while also keeping him safe from the alligators under the tree.
