Welcome back to in person learning again! As we try our best to stay in person, please help us out by reminding your student of the expectations while at school (mask over the nose, at least 3 ft apart, hands/feet to ourselves, wash hands regularly). We are reinforcing these regularly at school, but it doesn't hurt to go over them at home too!
As a reminder, with Q3 still in the early stages, be taking a look at grades and missing work so that no one falls behind early. Grades are being updated regularly, with Google classroom as an option for grades/missing work as well. The 6th grade website is the best place to look for daily directions, reminders, and updates about learning! This is also where your student should start each day that we are remote or when they are absent for any reason. This week in math, we are continuing to focus on reviewing, as well as starting our next CPM chapter. On Monday, we reviewed how to divide decimals with some notes and a quizizz assignment. On Tuesday, students will complete an escape room over multiplying and dividing decimals. We will then start Ch 5 of CPM on Wednesday, which is over multiplying fractions and area. Wednesday we will complete lesson 5.1.1 (representing fraction multiplication) and on Thursday we will complete lesson 5.1.2 (describing parts of parts). Both lessons will have handouts and a Jamboard for those who are learning from home. On Friday, we will complete the homework assignments for those two lessons (5.1.1 and 5.1.2 Review Preview, online if remote). At the end of this post, there will be a list of the homework that is expected to be completed throughout the week. Check it out! You can also see a day by day breakdown of classwork and homework on the 6th grade Google site! This week in science, we'll be finishing our unit on genetic variations! On Monday, students were introduced to their project for Lesson 3: The Engineer - create a hypothetical problem for a race of aliens, as well as a genetic code that would help solve that problem. They will then create a genotype for the alien baby, as well as the two parents. This written work, as well as a family tree, will take Tuesday - Thursday. On Friday, students will take an open note test on the entire Genetic Variation Unit. All work for this unit should be completed by the end of the week. Math/Science classwork/homework this week:

I hope everyone enjoyed their day off for MLK Jr Day on Monday! We are back to remote learning for now, due to positive cases. The plan for now is to be remote Tuesday and Wednesday, with students returning on Thursday. If that changes, the district will send out that information to all of us.

During our video call on Tuesday, students worked with Ms Kennell on an evaluating algebraic expressions escape room! On Wednesday, students will be reviewing ratios with a Desmos Balloon Float assignment, as well as 3 Khan Academy assignments. Then on Thursday and Friday, we will be reviewing dividing multi-digit whole numbers, multiplying decimals, and dividing decimals. Next week, we'll finish any remaining work on those topics before starting our next CPM Chapter. At the end of this post, there will be a list of the homework that is expected to be completed throughout the week. Check it out! Tuesday - Thursday will be spent finishing Lesson 2: Extension, with most of the work happening in a packet if they were in person last week. On Friday, we'll be doing some intro for our next lesson. If you have any questions, please reach out and let us know! Let's have a wonderful week! Ms Kennell We survived one day of E-learning already this week! Hopefully we can get all of our quarantined students back quickly too! Grades have started over, and report cards for Quarter 2 were sent home with students on Friday. If your student was absent, they will get it when they return. As a reminder, the 6th grade website is the best place to look for daily directions, reminders, and updates about learning! This is also where your student should start each day that we are remote or when they are absent for any reason.
This week in math, we are continuing to focus on reviewing last semester and working on our teamwork skills! During our video call on Monday, students worked with Ms Kennell on an evaluating algebraic expressions murder mystery! They also completed some Khan Academy assignments over writing expressions with variables. On Tuesday, we will be benchmark testing (if in person) and remote students will be getting a head start on the activities for Wednesday! The hope is that they won't miss anything while they do their makeup testing once back. For in person students, we will be completing another murder mystery on Wednesday (Who Killed Mr X Pression), focusing on writing algebraic expressions, as well as completing a maze activity. On Thursday, students will complete a simplifying expressions escape room and a simplifying expressions riddle. Then on Friday, we will work on evaluating (solving) algebraic expressions again with an escape room and riddle. Next week, we'll do a little more work with expressions before moving on to operations with decimals (add/subtract/multiply/divide). At the end of this post, there will be a list of the homework that is expected to be completed throughout the week. Check it out! You can also see a day by day breakdown of classwork and homework on the 6th grade Google site! This week in science, we'll be continuing our unit on genetic variations! Monday and Tuesday will be spent finishing the third lesson (Lesson 2: Lab) by creating family trees for our alien families and answering the lesson questions. Then Wednesday - Friday will be spent working on Lesson 2: Extension, where we'll look at some of our own class traits, as well as solving a mystery! We will need part of next week to finish this lesson. Math/Science classwork/homework this week:

If you have any questions, please reach out and let us know! Let's have a wonderful week! Ms Kennell Welcome back! We're excited to see the students, get back in a routine, and start Quarter 3 strong! Grades have started over, and report cards for Quarter 2 should be sent home at the end of the week. This week in math, we are focusing on reviewing last semester and working on our teamwork skills! On Tuesday, we completed a creative math project focused on the number 2022, completed a teambuilder, and logged in to a new math website, Boddle! On Wednesday, we'll be reviewing enlargements and reductions, as well as taking a quiz over them. Then students will work on a desmos activity related to ratios, fractions, decimals, and percent (Des-Farm). Thursday will be spent reviewing improper fractions and mixed numbers by completing an escape room, and then completing a Desmos Mixed Number Challenge online. Then on Friday, we'll be finishing any remaining work with our Desmos activities from this week, as well as working on some teambuilder activities! At the end of this post, there will be a list of the homework that is expected to be completed throughout the week. Check it out! You can also see a day by day breakdown of classwork and homework on the 6th grade Google site! This week in science, we'll be continuing our unit on genetic variations! In the third lesson (Lesson 2: Lab), we'll be creating two alien families in order to explore the processes and outcomes of genetic variation. One alien family will produce sexually and one will reproduce asexually to model both reproductive ways. We'll also be making a family tree to represent those families. It should be a lot of fun! We will need part of next week to finish this lesson. Math/Science classwork/homework this week:
