Happy Read Week! This week, we will be having dress up days to celebrate Read Week, as well as our Read Night and Book Fair on Friday. I hope to see everyone there!
Monday: Paleontologist Day - Wear camo and/or your favorite hat. Tuesday: Dino-Day - Wear something GREEN. Wednesday: Silly-saurus Day - Get wacky! Wear your clothes backwards, inside out, or mismatched. Wear your hair in crazy spikes! Thursday: Dinosaur Tracks Day - Wear your silly or mismatched socks! Friday: Extinction Prevention Day - Wear school appropriate pajamas or comfy clothes! On Friday we will also be hosting our Read Night and Book Fair from 5:30-8:30. Please continue to check in with your student about their chromebook (Is it charged?!?), homework/absent work (Are they missing anything?!?), Classcraft (Have they fallen in battle?!?), and if they have gotten any behavior referrals that need to be signed (or detentions to be served). In math this week, we are reviewing for our rational numbers test! Students will be tested over number lines, adding/subtracting positive and negative integers (with or without a number line), positive and negative numbers in the context of a story problem, absolute value, four quadrant coordinate graphing, and distance between two points on a coordinate grid. Students will have various review activities both during class and for homework this week. Our test will be on Thursday. In social studies, we are finishing our work in ancient Egypt, with a focus on the different social classes in ancient Egypt and how the social class affected the daily life of the Egyptians. We will also be comparing Egypt to our previous civilizations and starting a hyperdoc activity! Your student should be keeping up with the notes in their notebook and should make up any necessary notes if they are absent. In spelling, we are finishing our lists this week. Students should be working on the activities on their tic tac toe boards, which are due on Friday. We will also be taking our tests on Friday. Upcoming dates:

Happy Valentine's Day week! This week, please continue to check in with your student about their chromebook (Is it charged?!?), homework/absent work (Are they missing anything?!?), and Classcraft (Have they fallen in battle?!?). Since this week is Valentine's Day, we will be having a small party on Thursday during interventions. Your student should be getting information from their homeroom teacher. As a reminder, students do not need to bring anything, but if they want to bring cards/candy, they must bring some for every student in their homeroom. Thanks! This week is also a Too Good for Drugs day in math, so their will not be any regular math work on Wednesday. Because of a teacher's institute and President's Day, there is also no school for students on Friday (2/15) and Monday (2/18).
In math this week we are reviewing absolute value and then beginning our work with four quadrant coordinate grids. Homework this week will be on Tuesday (absolute value worksheet). In social studies, we are finishing our work in ancient Egypt, with a focus on the different kingdoms in Egypt and some of the major achievements of the pharaohs (lesson 8). We will also be talking about mummies this week! Your student should be keeping up with the notes in their notebook and should make up any necessary notes if they are absent. In spelling, we are finishing our lists this week. Tic tac toe boards are due on Tuesday, and we will be taking our tests on Tuesday. We will wait on new lists until next week. Upcoming dates:
Hopefully everyone has recovered from the Polar Vortex last week! This week's updates will be short and sweet! I had to have my wisdom teeth removed last Friday and am still recovering, but I'm trying to power through!
In math this week we are working on reviewing what positive and negative numbers mean in real life contexts and then working on absolute value. Next week, we will be moving on to four quadrant coordinate graphing! Homework this week will be on Tuesday (7.5 worksheet) and Thursday (3.2.3 Review Preview). In social studies, we are continuing to learn about ancient Egypt, with a focus on the different kingdoms in Egypt and some of the major achievements of the pharaohs. This is lesson eight from TCI. Your student should be keeping up with the notes in their notebook and should make up any necessary notes if they are absent. In spelling, we are working on a new list and a tic tac toe board! Students get to pick the spelling activities they wish to complete, provided that they complete TWO sets of three in a row. Tic tac toe boards will be due on Tuesday, February 12 and we will also take our spelling tests that day. Upcoming dates:
