Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful spring break! As we continue with Quarter 4, please remind your student to check about missing work, especially if they are in a sport!
As a reminder, if your student is absent, we will still be updating the 6th grade website daily. Even though we are back in person 5 days a week, that information is helpful for absent students, as well as parents, since it lists what we are working on in class and what students have for homework each night. If students are at home due to an illness or because they have to quarantine, they should use the website, then Google classroom. Emails can be answered as soon as possible, with video calls set up after school if necessary. In science this week, we will finish our unit by completing Lesson 3: The Engineer. Students will be using their work with weather and fronts to try to forecast the weather for a selected area. For this week, they'll complete the research and planning (steps 1-3 on Mosa Mack). Next week, we will finish the weather report visual (step 4 on Mosa Mack) and take the unit test. Any old weather work should be completed as soon as possible. In math this week, we are doing a little bit of review first before continuing with the last part of Chapter 5. On Monday, we reviewed multiplying and dividing decimals and completed an escape room, which is completely digital. On Tuesday, we will review ratios by completing a ratio escape room, which is also completely digital. Wednesday will be spent reviewing how to find area and rearranging shapes so that we can find the area easier (CPM Lesson 5.3.1 - Rearranging Areas). Wednesday we will be using a Jamboard and a resource page, though students working from home can still complete the lesson. Wednesday will have an additional homework assignment (5.3.1 Review Preview, Jamboard or paper). Then on Thursday, we'll be working on science, since it will be the final day of the week. There is no school on Friday (Good Friday). Next week, we'll finish up the remaining lessons in chapter 5, which continue to focus on area of non-rectangular shapes. Math homework for this week:
Thank you for your continued support and have a fantastic week! Ms Kennell

First week of Quarter 4, first week of 5 days in person, and last week before Spring Break!3/16/2021 It is a busy week!! Quarter 4 kicked off with our first week of 5 days in person, and it's our final week before Spring Break. Report cards for Quarter 3 will be sent home this Friday. Our current work will be going on Quarter 4 grades, so please remind your student to check about missing work, especially if they are in a sport!
Our Read-A-Thon has ended, but donations can still be accepted for a couple more days. If your student received donations in their honor, they will be able to cash in a small portion for prizes online. Those prizes must be chosen before the end of spring break. Students who signed up for the Read-A-Thon have earned a PJ day for Friday and students who logged at least 300 minutes of reading will get a cafeteria cookie too! We also had a goal of 30 positive office referrals on the intermediate side of the building before the end of the quarter, which we met! For meeting that goal, the students have earned an ice cream and movie party, which we'll be doing Friday afternoon in 6th grade. As a reminder, if your student is absent, we will still be updating the 6th grade website daily. Even though we are back in person 5 days a week, that information is helpful for absent students, as well as parents, since it lists what we are working on in class and what students have for homework each night. In science this week, we will be taking a short break before ending our Weather unit after spring break. Our Friday will look a little different this week due to the ice cream/movie reward. After spring break, we will finish our unit by completing Lesson 3: The Engineer. Students will be using their work with weather and fronts to try to forecast the weather for a selected area. After, we'll take the unit test before moving on to our next unit! Any old weather work should be completed as soon as possible. In math this week, we are finishing the first part of Chapter 5 before heading off for spring break. On Monday, we used our background knowledge on generic rectangles and multiplying fractions to figure out two ways to multiply mixed numbers (which can also be used to multiply decimals). On Tuesday, we took some notes on multiplying decimals and then practiced with a Quizizz assignment. Wednesday will be spent completing notes on dividing decimals and a practice on Quizizz. Then on Thursday, we'll be completing a team quiz before playing a decimal operation game! After break, we'll move into the final part of chapter 5, which focuses on area of non-rectangular shapes. Thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful week! Ms Kennell It's week #2 of the Read-A-Thon! The weather looks to be beautiful this week and we have lots of sports going on at the moment! As a reminder, if your 6th grader is participating in a sport, they must be eligible! Eligibility runs each week on Monday morning, so make sure your student is completing their work and checking in on their grades!! If your student has questions about late work or grades, now is a great time to ask those questions! This week is the final week of Quarter 3.
With the Read-A-Thon, students are encouraged to sign up (parent's do this!), log their reading time, and earn money! It's all filled out and completed online, with the money going towards our PBIS carts, which started back up last week! Many of our 6th graders still have not been signed up, so they cannot record their minutes! As a reminder, if your student is absent, we will still be updating the 6th grade website daily, as well as providing any videos (if necessary). Information also went out recently about the upcoming change to Mondays. We will start back in person on the final Monday before spring break (next Monday!). The plan is still to get out at 2:20 each day. In science this week, we will be continuing our unit on Weather, finishing up Lesson 2: The Make, which we started last week. This week, students will use what we learned about fronts to create short skips to reteach the class about those fronts. We will also finish the exit ticket for Lesson 2. Any old water cycle work or Lesson 1 weather work should be completed as soon as possible. In math this week, we are starting on Chapter 5, which focuses on multiplying fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals, as well as finding area of non-rectangular shapes. On Monday, students should have completed an equivalent ratio pixel art assignment on Google classroom. On Tuesday, we worked CPM Lesson 5.1.1, which looked at diagrams for multiplying fractions. Wednesday will be spent on CPM Lesson 5.1.2, which is about describing parts of parts (fraction multiplication) with words and diagrams. Then on Thursday, we'll complete CPM Lesson 5.1.3, which explores fraction multiplication without the use of diagrams. Much of our fraction work in this chapter should be review from last year. Thank you for your continued support and have a fantastic week! Ms Kennell Happy first week of March! The weather is starting to warm up, and we have some sports ending, while others are starting up. We are also nearing the end of the quarter. If your student has questions about late work or grades, now is a great time to ask those questions! This week we will also be participating in the Dr Seuss/Read Week dress up days, which are posted below.

We will continue to be remote (doing video calls) for the next few weeks, but will start back in person on the final Monday before spring break. The plan is still to get out at 2:20 each day. In science this week, we will be continuing our unit on Weather. In it, the students will go through a progression of three inquiry lessons that focus on temperature, pressure, and the corresponding weather patterns. Lesson 2: The Make will begin on Friday. Any old water cycle work or Lesson 1 weather work should be completed as soon as possible. In math this week, we are reviewing our work in chapter four and taking our chapter test. On Monday, students should have completed 9 ratio assignments on Khan Academy. On Tuesday, we worked on an enlarge and reduce figures team test and started a 4.2.4 Des-Farm assignment, which is posted in Google classroom and should be completed (if necessary) for homework. Wednesday will be spent completing a chapter four review packet, as well as checking in about missing work. Then on Thursday, we'll take our chapter four math test. Math homework for this week:
