This week we are continuing our Classcraft Challenge from last week! Each student was placed in a team on Classcraft, and those teams are being used for the first time in a challenge. After this week, the five teams that earn the most XP will earn a full size candy bar of their choice!
As a reminder, please continue to help support your student with their chromebooks, as some students are still struggling to bring it to school charged on a regular basis, and keep reading 20 minutes of AR each night to meet that AR goal! This week in math, we have continued our work with using a number line with positive and negative numbers, using lessons 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 on CPM. Your student will have math homework on Tuesday (3.2.1 Integer Practice) and Thursday (3.2.1/3.2.2 Additional Integer Practice) this week. If math homework is a struggle in the evenings, consider having your student stay for ASHH (6th grade's after school homework help)! Your student has the opportunity to have a snack and a quiet place to work on homework (and ask questions!). This is also a great opportunity for students to complete chromebook assignments if internet access at home is difficult. ASHH will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:10-4:00 in the 6th grade classrooms. Please contact your student's homeroom teacher if your child is planning on staying that day! In social studies this week, we are looking at the geography of Egypt using our TCI lessons (lesson 7). We are busy looking at maps of Egypt, labeling different landmarks, and trying to determine how geography affected the settlement in ancient Egypt. We have completed a geography worksheet and are working on finishing our geography note pages. In spelling, we got behind in our schedule last week, so we are finishing our new lists this week! Students will be completing word sorts, pyramid words, rainbow words, red vowels, and then taking a spelling test the end of the week. All sorts/work is due this Friday (test day). Upcoming dates:
Have a fantastic week! Ms. Kennell

Wow! I hope everyone has recovered from the massive amount of snow we received over the weekend and enjoyed playing in it!
This week is a Classcraft Challenge week!!!! Each student was placed in a team on Classcraft, and those teams are being used for the first time in a challenge. This week, the five teams that earn the most XP will earn a full size candy bar of their choice! We've spent some time talking about how we can earn XP points for our teams, and also discussed how losing HP does not help your team earn XP. Ask your student how they are earning XP! As a reminder, please continue to help support your student with their chromebooks, as some students are still struggling to bring it to school charged on a regular basis, and keep reading 20 minutes of AR each night to meet that AR goal! This week, a digital reminder was also sent home (Classtag) about the SIT conference. If your student is planning on participating, which I highly encourage, the forms are all due by Wednesday, January 23. This week in math, we finished our graphing project that we started last week, where we learned how to read a graph that uses no numbers, and created our own graphs. Today, we are jumping into our next CPM unit on rational numbers. We will be exploring positive and negative numbers, adding and subtracting using a number line, absolute value, and four quadrant coordinate grids. This week, we will be working primarily on using a number line with positive and negative numbers, using lessons 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 on CPM. Your student will have math homework on Wednesday this week (3.2.1 Review Preview). In social studies this week, we have finished our Google slides presentations on ancient Greece and will be beginning Egypt. Today, we will watch a video with a question sheets to learn some background information, then spend the rest of the week looking at the geography of Egypt using our TCI lessons. In spelling, we are finishing our new lists this week! Students will be completing word sorts, pyramid words, rainbow words, red vowels, and then taking a spelling test the end of the week. All sorts/work is due this Friday (test day). Upcoming dates:
Have a wonderful week! Ms. Kennell Happy 2019! We are off and running in our 3rd Quarter and we certainly jumped in quickly! We are busy working on benchmark testing, reviewing routines/expectations, and getting back to our content work! Please continue to help support your student with their chromebooks, as some students are still struggling to bring it to school charged on a regular basis. We are also working very hard to meet our AR goals this quarter! All students should be reading 20 minutes of AR each night for ELA homework, so we should be taking some AR tests soon! Report cards were also sent home last Friday, so please check with your student if you did not see the report card.
This week in math, we are focusing on some interesting math concepts. On Monday, we took our math winter benchmark assessment, which will be used to determine our new intervention groups. Tuesday/Wednesday, we are focusing on the idea of doubling, while looking for patterns and growth. This concept actually relates to a topic that will be covered in ELA and Science soon as well! This week we will also be completing some pattern/review work as we review how to work well in teams. Students will have homework on Tuesday and Thursday this week. In social studies this week, we are working on finishing up our last lesson on ancient Greece, which is about the legacy of ancient Greece (i.e., why do we study this ancient civilization). We are also going to be working on a final ancient Greece project (in place of a test). This project will include all of the Greece lessons, and will consist of a rough draft and final Google slides presentation. Students will have class time this week during social studies class and during intervention. Student presentations will be due following our class time this week. Our next unit, which we will begin next week, is Egypt!!! In spelling, we started new lists this week! Students will be completing word sorts, pyramid words, rainbow words, red vowels, and then taking a spelling test the end of next week. All sorts/work is due next Friday (test day). Upcoming dates:
