Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend! As we continue with Quarter 4, please remind your student to check about missing work, especially if they are in a sport!
**IAR testing is coming soon (state testing)!!! Please help us out by making sure your student is fully rested and has a fully charged chromebook! We will be doing some practice testing this week, with our official testing taking place April 19th-21st. As a reminder, if your student is absent, we will still be updating the 6th grade website daily. Even though we are back in person 5 days a week, that information is helpful for absent students, as well as parents, since it lists what we are working on in class and what students have for homework each night. If students are at home due to an illness or because they have to quarantine, they should use the website, then Google classroom. Emails can be answered as soon as possible, with video calls set up after school if necessary. In science this week, we will finish our unit by completing Lesson 3: The Engineer. Students will be using their work with weather and fronts to try to forecast the weather for a selected area. For this week, we will finish the weather report visual (step 4 on Mosa Mack) and take the unit test. Any old weather work should be completed as soon as possible. In math this week, we are working on completing chapter 5. On Monday, we completed CPM Lesson 5.3.2 (Area of Parallelograms), looking at how we can turn parallelograms into rectangles, so our area formula is the same (bxh). On Tuesday, we will be looking at the IAR practice test, trying out some of the problems and reviewing the features. Wednesday we will work on CPM Lesson 5.3.3 (Area of Triangles), exploring how two triangles can make up a rectangle, so the formula is 1/2(bxh) OR (bxh)/2. On Thursday, Ms Kennell will be out for a math meeting, so students will be completing the chapter 5 review packet with the substitute. We will finish the remaining math lesson for chapter 5 on Monday (5.3.4 - Area of Trapezoids) before taking our Ch 5 math test on Tuesday. The remaining time before IAR testing will be spent reviewing mean, median, mode, and range, as well as reviewing other content. Math homework for this week:
Thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful week! Ms Kennell
