Wow! I hope everyone has recovered from the massive amount of snow we received over the weekend and enjoyed playing in it!
This week is a Classcraft Challenge week!!!! Each student was placed in a team on Classcraft, and those teams are being used for the first time in a challenge. This week, the five teams that earn the most XP will earn a full size candy bar of their choice! We've spent some time talking about how we can earn XP points for our teams, and also discussed how losing HP does not help your team earn XP. Ask your student how they are earning XP! As a reminder, please continue to help support your student with their chromebooks, as some students are still struggling to bring it to school charged on a regular basis, and keep reading 20 minutes of AR each night to meet that AR goal! This week, a digital reminder was also sent home (Classtag) about the SIT conference. If your student is planning on participating, which I highly encourage, the forms are all due by Wednesday, January 23. This week in math, we finished our graphing project that we started last week, where we learned how to read a graph that uses no numbers, and created our own graphs. Today, we are jumping into our next CPM unit on rational numbers. We will be exploring positive and negative numbers, adding and subtracting using a number line, absolute value, and four quadrant coordinate grids. This week, we will be working primarily on using a number line with positive and negative numbers, using lessons 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 on CPM. Your student will have math homework on Wednesday this week (3.2.1 Review Preview). In social studies this week, we have finished our Google slides presentations on ancient Greece and will be beginning Egypt. Today, we will watch a video with a question sheets to learn some background information, then spend the rest of the week looking at the geography of Egypt using our TCI lessons. In spelling, we are finishing our new lists this week! Students will be completing word sorts, pyramid words, rainbow words, red vowels, and then taking a spelling test the end of the week. All sorts/work is due this Friday (test day). Upcoming dates:
Have a wonderful week! Ms. Kennell
