Welcome back! We hope everyone had a restful and relaxing break. We are so excited to get back into a routine here in Quarter 3! As a reminder, we will be remote this week (Tuesday, January 5 through Friday, January 8) and will have live class periods via Google meet links. Next week, we will jump back into our “regular” schedule, with remote live lessons on Mondays and in person learning Tuesdays-Fridays.
Since we are only going to be remote this week, there will NOT be a material pick up for 6th graders at this time. Instead, all work will be supplied electronically for this week. During our remote days (this week and all Mondays), students will have video call times from 8:30-9:30 and 10:30-11:30 with their 6th grade teachers. This week only, they will also be completing video calls with Mr Barton from 1:30-2:00 and art/guidance calls once a week from 9:45-10:15 (Wed/Fri). The specials calls do not take place on Mondays. A table schedule was also emailed out again for your reference. Since teachers will be providing instruction during those video calls, students are expected to join and participate for the entire session. If students are absent during the call for any reason (or absent on an in person day), they are expected to watch the video recording of the lesson, which is posted by 3:30 pm each day. These videos take the place of the in class instruction if it is missed and are not optional. This will continue until further notice. During remote days, students should start by checking the 6th grade website to see their assignments for the day, then be prepared to join each of the Google meets on time. Links to the meets will be provided on the 6th grade website as much as possible. During the meets, students will be working on classwork with their various teachers. Students will have work to complete outside of the scheduled video calls as well. For this week, our focus will be math and ELA, which will continue to be the focus during our in person days. However, we will be starting science and social studies again this quarter, which will be the focus on Mondays. Since that will be the only material posted for Mondays, students could have up to 2-3 hours of both science and social studies work on those days, as well as PE and any late work. Grades can be checked at any time on Skyward by either the parent or the student. In math this week, we will be doing a quick review of the last couple of weeks of Quarter 2, working on some percent assignments on Khan Academy, completing a creative math assignment related to 2021, and reviewing/practicing adding and subtracting fractions. Next week (in person), we will be completing our winter benchmark assessment and starting the last section of chapter 3 (integers). We will explore positive and negative numbers, their placement and relationships on a number line, absolute value, and coordinate graphing on a four quadrant grid. Thank you for your continued support as we begin the second half of the school year! Have a fantastic week! Ms Kennell
