Happy second week of January! We are still working on getting back into a routine, but well on our way with Quarter 3!
As a reminder, students should be bringing home graded papers to show you! They can complete corrections on any paper to earn up to 1/2 credit back (homework, quizzes, tests, etc.). They should also be charging their chromebooks at home on a regular basis. Try to find a specific spot and set up a routine for checking/charging those devices. We are still having a number of chromebooks dying during class, so please make it a priority to talk with your student about this. For the month of January, we are also starting a math homework competition between the classes. Our class homework challenge is also going, with some of the classes earning rewards already! Let's keep it up! This week in math, we are jumping into our next CPM chapter. The first half of the chapter covers variables, using variables to write expressions, and evaluating those expressions. The second half of the chapter focuses on ratios, specifically how to write ratios and how to use ratios to enlarge and reduce figures accurately. On Monday, we completed our winter benchmarking test, which will be used to create new intervention groups in the coming weeks. Tuesday and Wednesday will be spent on lesson 4.1.1, which is an introduction to using variables. On Thursday and Friday we will work through writing equivalent expressions, which is lesson 4.1.2. This week, students will have homework on Wednesday (4.1.1 Review Preview part 1) and Thursday (4.1.1 Review Preview part 2). Struggling to help your student with homework??? Take advantage of CPM's Homework Help page! We spent time going over this a lot at the very beginning of the year, but some need a refresher! Almost all math homework assignments come from CPM, and CPM has homework help for each problem. Simply find the homework probelm (all on their textbook page!), click on the homework help link, and hints will come up for that problem. Some problems even give you a bonus hint/help! You can also access the Homework Help using the Website Links here on my website. There are also resources available for parents under the CPM (Math) Parent Resources page! These are updated every chapter to help parents with our math concepts! This week in social studies we are finishing our lesson on Alexander the Great and how he built his empire. Our final lesson over Greece will begin later this week and cover the legacy of ancient Greece. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS! Benchmark Testing:
Have a fabulous week! Ms Kennell
