We are entering week two of our remote learning. Hopefully this is the last week and we can be back in person next week! Even though most students are doing an excellent job adjusting and working remotely, I miss having them with me in class (and I think some of them do too!). As a reminder, students are expected to check the 6th grade website every morning (link is in the header, on Clever, and on the district page). Our day begins by 8:30 each morning! Students have assigned Google Meet times each day with each 6th grade teacher. Students are expected to join as part of their daily instruction. The times for Blue and Silver students are posted below.
In math this week, we are going to be continuing our review of adding/subtracting decimals. We will also be completing a second CPM lesson using Desmos during our synchronous learning time via Google Meet. This lesson focuses on decomposing numbers in multiple ways and comparing values of numerical expressions and quantities using appropriate symbol notation. In science, we are completing our second lesson on the design thinking process and looking at examples of real world creations. We have been determining if they were successful building projects or not, as well as how those projects could have been improved. Lesson 2 was completed fully online, so students should be typing their answers on the Mosa Mack website instead of writing by hand. This week, we will also be starting our next experiment: Float Your Boat! Students will be working to create a boat out of aluminum foil that will hold the most weight (pennies). Students will be spending a couple weeks on this, as we will be working through all of the stages of the design thinking process this time (identify the problem, ideate/brainstorm, prototype, test, refine, repeat). Remote Learning Synchronous Daily Schedule (Tues-Fri only, Monday schedules will remain the same):
Have a splendid week! Reach out to any of the teachers if you have questions! Ms Kennell
