Where has the year gone?!?!? It seems like just yesterday we were beginning the school year, and now we are in the final countdown! With this being our last full week of school, we are finishing up our curriculum and finalizing grades.
In math this week, we are spending some time exploring volume and surface area of rectangular prisms and cubes! Students will be working with centimeter cubes to build a variety of prisms and cubes to discover the formula for volume and surface area. We will be making connections to the real world by discussing and analyzing the boxes products are packaged in, with students creating their own box with a specified volume and surface area towards the end of the week. If you have any empty boxes at home (of small or moderate size - nothing too big please!), please send them to school with your student for us to explore! In social studies, we are spending a week on Medieval Europe, with our focus on castles, catapults, the Crusades, and King Arthur. In addition to learning about these topics, we will be making connections to our religion unit and between history and legend. On Friday, we will take our final map quiz, which covers all of our maps this year! In spelling, we are wrapping up our final spelling lists. All students will be finishing their tic tac toe boards and taking their spelling tests (please check with your student to see if they are finished, as some might need to work on their boards at home). These will be our final grades for spelling this year. Upcoming Dates:
