It's the first week of October! Time for cooler temperatures, changing colors, and fall!!!
In math this week, we are reviewing generic rectangles, using them to help us understand the distributive property, and reviewing adding/subtracting decimals. And as always, we are starting each class period with a number talk! In social studies, we are finishing our lessons on Mesopotamia, ending with the fall of Sumer, rise or Babylon, and Hammurabi's Code of Laws. Students have a Mesopotamia review worksheet today, and will have a Hammurabi's Code assignment later this week. Test over Mesopotamia next week! We also received a new map for our Map Quizzes (Asia!). This one will be completed in two sections, just like the North America map. In spelling, we received our first individualized lists and made index cards last week, and are working on sorting our words and meeting in our groups this week. Each spelling rotation will last two weeks, so students have some time before their first spelling test. The spelling lists are based on word patterns, so each of the words fits into the same or similar patterns. A few reminders: This Thursday, October 5, is our district wide evacuation drill. If you are participating in the drill, please be listening for directions that day. If you are not participating, your student will head home as they normally would. Friday, October 6, is a no student attendance day, and Monday, October 9 is Columbus Day, so no school for students. Enjoy the beautiful weather this week and the four day weekend! As always, if you have questions, feel free to send me a message or email! (just make sure my last name is spelled correctly - incorrect spellings do not come to me!!!)
