Happy Halloween week! It's also the first week of parent teacher conferences. Quarter 2 has begun, with grades starting to add up and eligibility starting this week for those in sports. Students will be getting report cards sent home during parent teacher conferences, along with a variety of other testing paperwork. Please encourage your student to come with you to your conference time. If you have yet to sign up for a conference, please contact their homeroom teacher as soon as possible. Last week's Classcraft challenge was a success! It was encouraging to see students work hard to earn that reward. Mr. Lowery's class won the challenge, but it was very close! We are working on rewards for individual students for leveling up, as well as working on determining what our next challenge will be.
In math this week, we are finishing our work on multiplying fractions, which includes multiplying mixed numbers, focusing on using diagrams to explain why the standard algorithm works. Next week, we will begin working on strategies for dividing fractions. Students will have homework Monday (5.1.2 review preview), Tuesday (5.1.3 review preview), and Thursday (5.1.4 review preview). In social studies, our focus for the week is exploring the four empires of Mesopotamia. We will spend the entire week on this lesson, with homework assignments to finish any notebook pages we did not finish in class. This is our last lesson over Mesopotamia, so we will be reviewing and taking a test over Mesopotamia next week. In spelling, we are doing some work outside of class with our spelling while we focus on circles during class time. We will be working on finishing our list and taking our test next week. Students will be asked to do some spelling homework this week. Upcoming dates:
Have a great week! Ms. Kennell
