Happy 2019! We are off and running in our 3rd Quarter and we certainly jumped in quickly! We are busy working on benchmark testing, reviewing routines/expectations, and getting back to our content work! Please continue to help support your student with their chromebooks, as some students are still struggling to bring it to school charged on a regular basis. We are also working very hard to meet our AR goals this quarter! All students should be reading 20 minutes of AR each night for ELA homework, so we should be taking some AR tests soon! Report cards were also sent home last Friday, so please check with your student if you did not see the report card.
This week in math, we are focusing on some interesting math concepts. On Monday, we took our math winter benchmark assessment, which will be used to determine our new intervention groups. Tuesday/Wednesday, we are focusing on the idea of doubling, while looking for patterns and growth. This concept actually relates to a topic that will be covered in ELA and Science soon as well! This week we will also be completing some pattern/review work as we review how to work well in teams. Students will have homework on Tuesday and Thursday this week. In social studies this week, we are working on finishing up our last lesson on ancient Greece, which is about the legacy of ancient Greece (i.e., why do we study this ancient civilization). We are also going to be working on a final ancient Greece project (in place of a test). This project will include all of the Greece lessons, and will consist of a rough draft and final Google slides presentation. Students will have class time this week during social studies class and during intervention. Student presentations will be due following our class time this week. Our next unit, which we will begin next week, is Egypt!!! In spelling, we started new lists this week! Students will be completing word sorts, pyramid words, rainbow words, red vowels, and then taking a spelling test the end of next week. All sorts/work is due next Friday (test day). Upcoming dates:
Have a fabulous week! Ms. Kennell
