Welcome to October! The fall weather is starting to show up, so make sure to send your students to school in layers! This is another short week, thanks to a Teacher's Institute Day on Friday, with no school next Monday as well because of Columbus Day. Enjoy your four day weekend! Last week, we completed our benchmark testing for interventions and this week we will begin our groups! Please remember to be checking with your student each day about their homework assignments. As a reminder, students can and should complete late assignments up until the final week of the quarter.
In math this week, we will be continuing our work with using generic rectangles to multiply whole numbers. At this time, students should be using this method instead of the standard algorithm, as it connects to our learning later in this unit. Students will have two assignments this week (Monday - Generic Rectangle WS and Tuesday - 2.3.2 Review Preview). In social studies, we are finishing TCI Lesson 3 - From Hunters and Gatherers to Farmers, and beginning Lesson 4 - The Rise of Sumerian City-States. We will be spending Monday and Tuesday reviewing our notes for Lesson 3 and then students will be using their notes to create a comic strip in ELA (this will count as an ELA and SS grade). Each evening, students should finish the section notes in their notebook if they did not finish them in class or if they were absent. Spelling this week is the end of our current lists! Students are finishing an ABC sort and taking a spelling test (Wednesday). New words will be given out either on Thursday or Tuesday of next week. Students should be making sure they have all of their sorts finished and that they are ready for the test! Upcoming dates:
Have a fabulous week! Ms. Kennell
