Happy last week of November! I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with fun, laughter, and food! This week is actually a full, regular schedule week!
This week in math, we are working on different strategies for dividing fractions. The four fraction division strategies are using a diagram, find common denominators, using a super giant one, and using the "invert and multiply" method. We will cover these one at a time, with the primary focus this week being diagrams and common denominators. We glued two math notes reference pages into our notebooks today, which students should look at when working on homework. We talked quite a bit in class today about how students should take home their math notebooks on homework nights and use the colored reference pages for help, but it couldn't hurt to reinforce that at home! Students will have math homework on Monday (6.1.4 Review Preview - we started this before Thanksgiving) and Tuesday (7.2.1 Review Preview). 7.2.2 Review Preview could be later this week or next week, depending on how the lessons progress. I will send out a Classtag message as well about homework this week. In social studies this week, we are focusing on the differences between Athens and Sparta, the two main city-states in ancient Greece. Students will be reading and exploring the two city-states, then comparing and contrasting life in them. Students will have some homework this week as a review of the government and geography lessons from the previous weeks. The government page will be homework on Tuesday, but the dates for the rest are TBD. In spelling, we will be receiving new lists and schedules, while alternating between spelling days and circle days. This week, students will make new cards, then complete a word sort and pyramid words in their notebooks. Next week, students will complete rainbow words, ABC order, and finish with a test next Friday. Upcoming dates:
Have a wonderful week! Ms. Kennell
