Happy Tuesday and happy December! I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving! As of right now, we are remote for this week and back in person next week, but we'll plan on being flexible just in case something changes again! As always, if you have questions, please reach out!
As a reminder, students should be in video calls every day (Monday-Friday). The times with their 6th grade teachers are 8:30-9:30 and 10:30-11:30, PE is from 1:30-2:00, and Guidance/Art are Wednesday and Friday from 9:45-10:15. As remote learning continues, we are ending up with less students on the calls, which is going to negatively impact their grade, since they are missing their core instruction. Videos, while better than nothing, do not replace the on screen time with the teacher. Since teachers will be providing instruction during those video calls, it is important for every student to join the call and participate for the entire session. Their attendance and participation in the call also counts toward their daily attendance. If there's a reason why your student will not be in the call or will miss part of the call, an email would be great! If your student has to miss a video call due to an appointment, we are posting short recordings on either the 6th grade website or Google classroom, though those videos are not up until later in the afternoon. Students who miss the class calls are still expected to complete the daily assignments and watch the recordings. During our days, students should start by checking the 6th grade website to see their assignments for the day, then be prepared to join each of the Google meets on time. Interventions also started last week, so students should have some math/reading to complete for interventions independently. Grades can be checked at any time on Skyward by either the parent or the student. For math this week, we took our math test during our video call today, with a few students needing to finish up the last couple of problems tomorrow during the call. On Wednesday, we'll work on prepping for the next math chapter, adding some notes to our math notebooks, and finishing any remaining tests. Thursday, I will be attending a virtual math workshop, so my live sessions will not be happening (though Ms Brutlag's will!). Instead, students should work on the posted math assignments during our normal video call time. They will be completing some math problems related to a read aloud video, as well as completing some Khan Academy assignments on Greatest Common Factor. Friday, we will start chapter 3 with a Jamboard, which will be finished on Monday if necessary. Since our primary focus is math and ELA right now, we are not pushing out new science and social studies materials. Because of this, if students wish to raise those grades, they will need to email their teacher about redoing individual assignments. Thank you for your help and support as we work on continuing our education remotely. If you have any questions, please reach out! Have a wonderful week! Ms Kennell
