Brr! It's cold out there! I'm so grateful that most of our students were able to stay inside and learn from home today! Shout out to most of our students for joining our video calls and completing assignments on time! Our new homework challenge is probably helping that just a bit. :) Also, if your student didn't mention it yet, we have made a slight schedule adjustment, moving science/SS to the last day of in person learning for the week and switching our video calls on Mondays back to math/ELA. We needed some face time with science/SS and this seemed like the best way to do it. We started this on Friday.
As a reminder, if your student is absent, we will still be updating the 6th grade website daily, as well as providing any videos (if necessary). **Due to all of the restrictions this year, plus the fact that Valentine's Day is on the Sunday of a long weekend, 6th grade has decided to not have a party or pass out any treats this year. In science this week, we will continue to work on our Water Cycle unit! On Friday last week, students worked in their small groups on Lesson 3: The Engineer. They had to choose a state that experiences droughts, complete some research on that state, and are working to build a way to conserve water or create a technical drawing to supply more water. They will be finishing their buildings/drawings this week on Thursday. After those are created, students will be presenting their creations and taking the water cycle assessment (next Friday). In math this week, we started the week by reviewing converting mixed numbers and improper fractions. They should have completed an escape room and a Quizizz assignment during or after our video call today. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will be working on lesson 4.1.3 (using variables to generalize), which will take us a couple of days to complete. Thursday is the final day of our week this week, so that will be a science/SS day. The second half of chapter 4 is about ratios and enlargements/reductions, which we will work on next week. Math homework for this week:
**No school this Friday (12th - teacher's institute) or Monday (15th - President's Day). Enjoy the long weekend! Thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful week! Ms Kennell
